I've Been Notified of Acceptance into the
Detail of "Adding the Finishing Touches" | 12 x 16 inches, oil on panel | Studio work

I submitted two works to the exhibition jury, with both paintings making it past the first cut – with another round of judging used to determine which one would make it into the show. Glad it wasn't my decision to make because would have been a hard to decide. I like both equally well and artists may exhibit only one work in the show.
Here is the other painting:
"Joseph's Boatyard" | 9 x 12 inches, oil on panel | Plein Air Work
The 2010 OPA National Exhibition will be held at the Lanning Gallery in Sedona, Arizona. A well-known gallery and prestigious venue. Nice people. Nice art. Nice clientele.
There will be a preview which opens on April 24th. The show will close on May 31st. But by then I'll be well into my second paint-out of the summer somewhere up in the Santa Cruz Mountains near Los Gatos, California. Gotta keep chasing the next frameable chunk of beauty. Can't stop to look back.
My question to you here is, which painting would you have chosen? And why?

Congratulations are also in order for David Riedel, Mitch Baird, Margaret Short, Michael Orwick, and Alan M. Bell for having their work accepted in this year's OPA National as well. All artists who live and work in the Portland area too!

Here is the painting that is in the OPA show.
Michael, I think this is one of my favorite paintings of yours. I love the abstract design. Makes me keep looking at it.

Wellll I I love the big woman painting..she is magnificent. I am very drawn to figure in landscape! I love how you allowed her to be so "real". The sunshine on her is exquisite. I am floored by how pretty it is! I hope the real person sees how gorgeous this is--she is a comrade in paint and concentration. Congratulations, Thomas!
Thanks, Celeste. Her name is Diana and she was someone I met at the Carmel workshop. She was a fun person with a sharp wit. We painted a lot together. In fact, this was the last of the evening sessions and we were both poised out on a rocky point just north of Big Sur. (South of Eselen, I believe.) The light was incredible so I snuck a few shots off. She didn't even know about it until I said, "Hey, turn around!"
She'll see this painting because the workshop instructor told her about it yesterday.
Heading out to paint in the Tualatin wetlands right now. Will be there tomorrow as well.

I just love this! Congratulations on the honor of being selected! They are both beautiful, but I'm more drawn to the liveliness of the figure/seascape.
Thanks Quinn. I appreciate knowing your preference.
Thinking about coming out to N Portland to paint the RR bridge soon, from the bluff. Interested?

I like their choice because it tells a story and I'm always drawn to that in painting. I also like the painting within the painting concept. Congrats, Thomas and happy painting!
